RingCentral vs. Nextiva

RingCentral and Nextiva are two of the largest cloud phone providers for US businesses. RingCentral leans on a big app catalog and a separate contact center product. Nextiva publishes lower entry prices and covers more customer messaging channels, but gates CRM integrations and supervisor tools harder.

Published by Cannon VoIP, which competes with both. We compare them fairly, call the winner in each category from their own published information, and cite every source at the bottom.

Pricing & contract
Reported by independent pricing guides at Core $20/user/mo, Advanced $25 and Ultra $35 with annual billing; RingCentral's own plan page now says to contact sales for pricing. Plus separate regulatory and E911 fees. Month-to-month billing costs more; annual contracts carry early termination fees.
Core $15, Engage $25 and Scale $75/user/mo with annual billing, which requires a 12-month minimum term. Month to month: Core $23, Engage $50, Scale $75.
Add-ons & hidden fees
Compliance/Administrative Cost Recovery Fee and E911 fee on every invoice. AI Receptionist ($39–49/mo) and AI Conversation Expert ($60/user/mo) are separate paid add-ons.
Regulatory Recovery Fee ($3.95/line), E911 fee ($1.50/line), and toll-free overages on top of the plan price. AI call transcription and summaries are listed only on Scale; XBert AI plans start at $99/mo.
Contract lock-in & termination fee
Annual and multi-year contracts carry an early termination fee: RingCentral's terms require paying all charges for the rest of the term, with auto-renewal unless cancelled 30+ days before term end.
The lowest prices require a 12-month minimum term; month-to-month billing costs more. Early-cancellation fees aren't fully published; confirm the exact terms before signing.
Setup & onboarding
Self-serve admin portal built for IT-staffed organizations; feature access depends on which tier you're on.
Lists hands-on setup assistance on every plan; which features you can configure afterward depends on your tier.
Customer support & reliability
Reviewers describe inconsistent support quality; RingCentral's terms require paying the rest of the contract term to leave early, and contracts auto-renew unless cancelled 30+ days before term end.
User reports describe bills well above the quoted price and difficulty getting refunds after cancellation, and Nextiva's terms let it change fees during the term. App store reviewers report missed notifications and calls that do not ring.
Integrations
330+ integrations in its app gallery (Salesforce, HubSpot, Zendesk, and more), but CRM integrations require the Advanced tier or higher.
Salesforce, HubSpot and other CRM integrations are a paid add-on on every small business tier, at a price Nextiva does not publish. Core is limited to 2 reporting dashboards.
Built-in CRM
No built-in CRM. CRM integrations require the Advanced tier or higher.
Built-in contact management, not a full CRM. CRM integrations are a paid add-on on every tier.
International calling
Not included in RingEX plans: international calls are billed per minute against prepaid calling credits, at rates that vary by destination. Calling credit bundles are sold separately.
No unlimited international calling on Core or Engage; international calls are billed per-minute, with rates varying by destination.
Meetings & messaging
Video meetings with dial-in and team chat on all tiers. Website chat is not part of RingEX: digital channels are in the RingCX contact center, from $65/agent/month.
Video meetings and team chat on all tiers. Website chat is an add-on on Core and included on Engage ($25) and Scale ($75).
Contact center tools
Whisper and barge on Advanced and up. Live queue reports need the Call Queues Booster add-on ($35). No power dialer in RingEX: outbound campaigns use the separate RingCX product.
Supervisor monitoring on Scale only. A dialer is only in the contact center product, Professional tier and up.
Call screening & 911
Callers can announce their name before the call connects.
Rule-based call blocking. Name-announce call screening is not listed on Nextiva's site.
Connect your own AI assistant
MCP connectors for ChatGPT, Claude and other AI assistants are included on all tiers.
No official MCP server for connecting your own AI assistant is listed on Nextiva's site.
Platform ownership
Builds and runs its own cloud platform (RingEX). It also licenses that platform to other brands, including AT&T Office@Hand, Avaya Cloud Office and RingCentral with Verizon.
Markets its own NextivaONE platform. Industry analysts have reported its core voice service runs on BroadSoft (now Cisco) call control.
Hardware & BYOD
Supports BYOD and sells desk phones, and also pushes a recurring "Device-as-a-Service" rental subscription where you never own the hardware. Reported mid-range phone rental runs about $15/device/month; renting past ~13 months (198÷15) costs more than buying our VoIP-6 outright ever would, and you still wouldn't own it.
Supports softphones and BYOD; desk phones are typically purchased separately as additional hardware cost.
