Cannon VoIP vs. Vonage

Vonage Business Communications is one of the oldest names in VoIP, with volume-tiered plans and a large add-on catalog. Cannon VoIP is one flat rate with features like recording and call queues already inside.

The short version
With Cannon VoIP$170 a month for 5 users, all-in, with a CRM, website chat and supervisor tools included.
With VonageAbout $250 to $275 or more a month after a higher tier, paid add-ons and fees, and still no built-in CRM or website chat.

Same 5-person setup. A very different bill.

Put the same five people on the same features: $170 a month all-in at Cannon VoIP, about $250 to $275 or more at Vonage. These are included with every $34 Cannon VoIP extension, while Vonage sells them as a higher tier or an add-on, or does not list them:

  • Built-in CRM. Vonage has no built-in CRM; integration starts on Premium.
  • Video meetings and team chat. On Vonage Premium ($29.99) and up.
  • Call recording. Vonage's base plan has none; Advanced ($39.99) gets 15 hours a month.
  • Supervisor listen, whisper and barge. Call monitoring is a paid Vonage add-on.
  • Website chat and a power dialer. Neither is listed for Vonage Business Communications.

5-user scenario: what you'd actually pay per month

Cannon VoIP
$170/month
5 extensions × $34, all-in. No regulatory fee, no E911 fee, no support-tier fee: unlimited domestic calling and texting, AI call/voicemail transcription, and CRM integration all included, with a main number plus a direct number for every extension (6 numbers) in the price.
Vonage
~$250–275+/month
Matching what $34 includes means Premium (desk phones + CRM) at 5 × $27.99 = $139.95 on promotional annual pricing, plus company call recording at $49.99/month, plus a call queue at $14.99/month and $0.03 per minute of caller wait time: about $205 list. Add average usage and the fees Vonage bills on top, a few hundred queue minutes (~$9) plus regulatory recovery and E911 charges that typically add 20–30% to the plan portion, and real invoices land around $250–275/month, with transcription still tied to the recording add-on rather than included per extension.

Moving from Vonage is built in

Cannon VoIP has migration tools in the portal, and our team guides the move for free:

  • How your setup comes across. Universal import: paste or upload an export or spreadsheet of your extensions, names, emails and desk phones, or hand our migration kit to an AI assistant to fill in from your old Vonage exports.
  • Keep what your callers hear. Optional discovery calls ring your old system and record what its menus say, so the wording, or the original recordings, can come across.
  • Nothing changes until you approve it. Review a plan with counts before anything is applied; an import report lists anything that could not come across.
  • No gap in service. Your Vonage service keeps taking calls until your numbers port, at $15 per line, usually the next business day.

Plus a live AI interpreter on any call (dial *84 or tap Translate) that translates both sides, and long-press translation for text messages.
Video meetings (up to 200) and team chat on Premium and up. Website chat is not listed for Vonage Business Communications.
Contact center tools
A wallboard with live queue stats, where supervisors can listen, whisper or barge into live calls, plus a power dialer for outbound campaigns that only calls between 8am and 9pm in the lead's local time.
Call monitoring is a paid add-on. Call queues are an add-on billed per queue plus per minute of wait time. A power dialer is not listed for Vonage Business Communications.
Call screening & 911
Call screening shows each caller's name and reason word for word as they speak, before you answer, and AI screening rules send calls you never want to voicemail without ringing. A 911 address is registered on each number and checked with 911 systems, each building can be a 911 site, 911 calls from the mobile app send the phone's location, and people you choose are alerted when anyone dials 911.
Name-announce call screening included.
Connect your own AI assistant
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or any Model Context Protocol (MCP) assistant, choose which areas it can reach, and high-risk actions wait for a person to approve them.
No MCP server for phone accounts.
Platform ownership
We wrote our own phone software and apps, and we run our own servers and switching from an undisclosed location in Fort Worth, with two backup regions; customer data is stored only in the US and is never shared or sold; only three outside companies for voice and texting; most feature requests ship in under four weeks.
Runs its own Vonage Business Communications platform. Owned by Ericsson since 2022.
Hardware & BYOD
Bring your own desk phone if it's on our compatibility list, or get our VoIP-6 ($198, with 10% off at 25 phones and 15% off at 75) or an ATA adapter ($99). Most other standard SIP phones can connect with basic SIP credentials, without the portal's remote management. We never rent or lease equipment: phones and adapters are yours to keep, purchased outright.
Sells desk phones; using them at all requires the Premium tier or higher, since Mobile is app-only.

Bottom line: Apples to apples, five users with matching features cost $170 a month at Cannon VoIP, all-in, and about $250 to $275 or more at Vonage after a higher tier, paid add-ons for monitoring and fees. That is about $80 to $105 less every month, and Vonage still leaves out a built-in CRM and website chat.
