Cannon VoIP vs. Google Voice

Google Voice is Google's phone add-on for Google Workspace, sold in three editions from $10 to $30 per user. It is cheap if you already pay for Workspace, but a team needs a paid Workspace plan to use it, and it covers calling and texting only. Cannon VoIP is a full business phone system with the CRM and contact center tools built in.

RingCentral Nextiva 8x8 Dialpad Zoom Phone 3CX Ooma Vonage GoTo Connect SpectrumVoIP Phone.com Grasshopper Quo Google Voice Comcast Business Spectrum Business

Both build their own platform. Only one is a full phone system.

Google builds and runs Voice itself, and so do we. The difference is scope. These are included with every Cannon VoIP extension, while Google Voice does not list them:

  • Built-in CRM. A built-in CRM is not listed (Google Contacts only), and the Salesforce integration beta was closed.
  • A wallboard with listen, whisper and barge. No wallboard or call monitoring is listed on Google's site.
  • A power dialer and website chat. Neither is listed on Google's site.
  • An AI receptionist. Google offers Gemini call notes on Standard and Premier, but no AI receptionist is listed.
  • Connect your own AI assistant over MCP. Google has MCP servers for Gmail, Drive and Calendar, but not for Voice, and no public Voice API is listed.

5-user scenario: what you'd actually pay per month

Cannon VoIP
$170/month
5 extensions × $34, all-in. No regulatory fee, no E911 fee, no support-tier fee: unlimited domestic calling and texting, AI call/voicemail transcription, and CRM integration all included, with a main number plus a direct number for every extension (6 numbers) in the price.
Google Voice
~$142 to $184/month plus taxes and fees
Auto attendants and call queues need Voice Standard ($20/user). The business editions also require a paid Workspace plan: Business Starter at $8.40 monthly (third-party figure) brings it to $28.40/user, or $142 for 5 users; Business Standard at $16.80 brings it to $36.80/user, or $184. Google adds taxes and regulatory fees by location. Credit where due: on the low end that is less than our $170, and if you already pay for Workspace, Voice Standard adds only $100/month. But no CRM, wallboard, dialer or website chat is listed at any price.

Pricing & contract
$34/extension/month flat, all-in: unlimited domestic calling and texting included. No long-term contract: month to month.
Voice Starter $10, Standard $20, Premier $30 per user/month, billed on a monthly flexible plan. Business editions require a paid Google Workspace plan on top (third-party figures: $8.40 to $26.40/user monthly). Starter is capped at 10 users. A standalone version exists for single US Gmail users.
Add-ons & hidden fees
No hidden fees. Core features are included in one flat rate per extension: no regulatory surcharge, no E911 fee, no core-feature upcharges. Optional add-ons are priced up front: AI receptionist $65/month, or free with 10 or more users; Branded Calling + RCS $45 one-time setup, then $40/month per block of 25 extensions; and cloud eFax.
Taxes and regulatory fees are added depending on your location. Google does not charge for extra numbers today but says it plans to apply limits and charges in the future. Activation fees are not listed on Google's site.
Contract lock-in & termination fee
None: month-to-month. Leave anytime with no early termination fee.
Voice is billed on a monthly flexible plan. An early termination fee is not listed on Google's site. Workspace offers a discount for a one-year commitment.
What's included
Call transcription and SMS included on every extension, every tier. Queues, auto attendants, voicemail transcription, recording: included.
Tier-gated. Starter has no auto attendants, ring groups or call queues. Automatic call recording and BigQuery reporting are Premier only. Gemini call notes need Standard or Premier.
Setup & onboarding
We handle every step of onboarding and set your team up for success, then call us anytime during business hours to add, change, or fine-tune any feature, big or small. Businesses within about an hour and a half of DFW Airport get free on-site installation.
Self-serve setup through the Google Workspace admin console. Hands-on onboarding is not listed on Google's site.
Customer support & reliability
Standard support Mon–Fri, 9 AM–5 PM; if a system is down or it's urgent, a real person is reachable 24/7, no ticket queue, no support tier to unlock. Live technicians stand by at our Fort Worth office 24/7/365, and businesses within about an hour and a half of DFW Airport can get on-site emergency service (billed separately; contact us for rates).
All Voice editions list 24/7 access to Google Voice support. Workspace standard support targets 4 hours on top-priority cases; Enhanced and Premium support cost extra.
Integrations
Microsoft Teams, Google Workspace, plus 11 CRM integrations included: Zoho, HubSpot, Salesforce, Dynamics 365, GoHighLevel, Zendesk, Freshdesk, SugarCRM, Odoo, Housecall Pro, CallRail. Contacts sync every six hours or on demand and name callers in screen pops; finished calls log automatically into HubSpot, Zoho and GoHighLevel.
Works inside Gmail, Calendar, Meet and Contacts. The Salesforce integration beta was closed and access revoked. Other CRM integrations are not listed on Google's site.
Built-in CRM
Included: people, deals and pipelines, website forms, automation, email sequences, service desk and appointments with a public booking page.
A built-in CRM is not listed on Google's site. Google Contacts only.
International calling
$0.25/min to common countries, $1.75/min to less-common countries, rare/high-cost destinations quoted separately.
Calls outside included markets bill from a rate card (China $0.30/min from July 2026). Most calls from European Voice numbers to European phones are included, and local numbers are offered in 14 countries.
Meetings & messaging
Built in: video meetings with a permanent room link and dial-in from any phone, team chat channels and direct messages, and a website chat bubble your staff answer from the portal or the Android and iPhone apps.
Video is Google Meet and team chat is Google Chat, both part of the Workspace plan, with 100 to 500 meeting participants by plan. A website chat widget is not listed on Google's site.
Contact center tools
A wallboard with live queue stats, where supervisors can listen, whisper or barge into live calls, plus a power dialer for outbound campaigns that only calls between 8am and 9pm in the lead's local time.
Call queues on Standard and Premier, up to 50 callers and 30 minutes of wait. A wallboard, listen/whisper/barge and a power dialer are not listed on Google's site.
Call screening & 911
Call screening shows each caller's name and reason word for word as they speak, before you answer, and AI screening rules send calls you never want to voicemail without ringing. A 911 address is registered on each number and checked with 911 systems, each building can be a 911 site, 911 calls from the mobile app send the phone's location, and people you choose are alerted when anyone dials 911.
Call screening and spam blocking with Google AI are documented. Whether name-announce screening works on Workspace accounts is not stated on Google's site.
Connect your own AI assistant
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or any Model Context Protocol (MCP) assistant, choose which areas it can reach, and high-risk actions wait for a person to approve them.
No MCP server for Voice is listed, though Google offers MCP servers for other Workspace apps. A public Voice calling or texting API is not listed on Google's site.
Platform ownership
Our own apps, servers and switching, run from our facility in Fort Worth with two backup regions; customer data is stored only in the US and is never shared or sold; only three outside companies for voice and texting; most feature requests ship in under four weeks.
Built and run by Google (Alphabet). It grew out of the GrandCentral acquisition in 2007 and relaunched as Google Voice in 2009.
Hardware & BYOD
Bring your own desk phone if it's on our compatibility list, or get our VoIP-6 ($198, with 10% off at 25 phones and 15% off at 75) or an ATA adapter ($99). We never rent or lease equipment: phones and adapters are yours to keep, purchased outright. (The one exception is the optional VoIP-HYBRID-1 on-site server for large organizations, a managed appliance we own while our software is on it, with a $1 buyout.)
Bring your own certified Poly desk phone or adapter. Poly is discontinuing most OBi-based devices, and a phone set up for Voice cannot use any other provider. Google selling or renting phones is not listed.

Bottom line: Google Voice is a fair choice for a small team already on Workspace that only needs calling, and Google runs its own platform with 24/7 support. Once you add the Workspace subscription and need a CRM, contact center tools or an AI receptionist, a $34 Cannon VoIP extension includes them.
