Cannon VoIP vs. Quo

Quo, formerly OpenPhone, is an app-based business phone system for calls, texts and shared inboxes, with an AI agent called Sona. It builds its own apps and lists Twilio as its voice and SMS provider. Annual pricing undercuts Cannon VoIP, but desk phone support, video meetings and a sales pipeline CRM are not listed on Quo's site.

Both build their own apps. Only one runs its own phone system.

Quo builds its software but lists Twilio as its provider for calls and texts. Cannon VoIP runs its own switching and servers. These come with every $34 Cannon VoIP extension, while Quo gates them or does not list them:

  • Desk phone support. Quo is app only, and desk phone support is not listed on its site.
  • A built-in CRM with deals and pipelines. Quo has contacts with custom properties and notes, not a sales pipeline.
  • Video meetings and website chat. Neither is listed on Quo's site, and its team chat is one-to-one messages only.
  • A wallboard, listen/whisper/barge and a power dialer. None of these is listed on Quo's site.
  • Phone menus, auto recording and AI call summaries on every extension. Quo puts all three on Business or Scale.

5-user scenario: what you'd actually pay per month

Cannon VoIP
$170/month
5 extensions × $34, all-in. No regulatory fee, no E911 fee, no support-tier fee: unlimited domestic calling and texting, AI call/voicemail transcription, and CRM integration all included, with a main number plus a direct number for every extension (6 numbers) in the price.
Quo
~$122 to $173/month plus taxes where collected
Matching what $34 includes means Quo Business, which adds phone menus, automatic recording, call transcripts, AI summaries and CRM integrations: 5 x $33 = $165/month billed monthly, or 5 x $23 = $115 billed annually. Each user gets one number, so a main number adds $5, and texting registration adds $1.50 to $3/month plus $19.50 once. Quo collects taxes and regulatory surcharges in 16 states. Credit where due: on an annual plan Quo is cheaper, though desk phones and video are not listed.

Meetings & messaging

Contact center tools
A wallboard with live queue stats, where supervisors can listen, whisper or barge into live calls, plus a power dialer for outbound campaigns that only calls between 8am and 9pm in the lead's local time.
Call queues, listen/whisper/barge, a wallboard and a power dialer are not listed on Quo's site. Analytics on Business and Scale.
Call screening & 911
Call screening shows each caller's name and reason word for word as they speak, before you answer, and AI screening rules send calls you never want to voicemail without ringing. A 911 address is registered on each number and checked with 911 systems, each building can be a 911 site, 911 calls from the mobile app send the phone's location, and people you choose are alerted when anyone dials 911.
Automatic spam detection (open beta, all plans, US calls) flags potential spam before you answer. Manual number blocking. Name-announce screening is not listed on Quo's site.
Connect your own AI assistant
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or any Model Context Protocol (MCP) assistant, choose which areas it can reach, and high-risk actions wait for a person to approve them.
Credit where due: an official MCP server with one-click Claude and ChatGPT connectors, plus a public API and webhooks, on every plan. Texts sent this way use prepaid credits.
Platform ownership
Our own apps, servers and switching, run from our facility in Fort Worth with two backup regions; customer data is stored only in the US and is never shared or sold; only three outside companies for voice and texting; most feature requests ship in under four weeks.
Quo builds its own apps; it lists Twilio for voice and SMS and AWS for hosting. Venture-backed, founded 2018 (third-party), rebranded from OpenPhone in September 2025.
Hardware & BYOD
Bring your own desk phone if it's on our compatibility list, or get our VoIP-6 ($198, with 10% off at 25 phones and 15% off at 75) or an ATA adapter ($99). We never rent or lease equipment: phones and adapters are yours to keep, purchased outright. (The one exception is the optional VoIP-HYBRID-1 on-site server for large organizations, a managed appliance we own while our software is on it, with a $1 buyout.)
App only on phone, tablet and computer. Desk phone support, phone sales and rental are not listed on Quo's site.

Bottom line: Quo is a well-built app for teams that work from phones and laptops, it is cheaper on an annual plan, and its MCP server and API are on every plan. For an office that wants desk phones, video meetings, a sales CRM and supervisor tools, Cannon VoIP includes them in $34, month to month.
