Cannon VoIP vs. PortSIP
PortSIP PBX is PBX software that you install and run yourself, on your own server or cloud account. Buyers report a 300-license minimum purchase, so even a small office pays for 300 licenses, and you also need hosting, a SIP trunk carrier for numbers, calling, texting and 911, STIR/SHAKEN call signing through your carrier, and someone to install, patch and secure it. Cannon VoIP runs all of that for you for $34 an extension.
Do we have more features than PortSIP?
For a small business that wants the whole system run for it, yes: we are the carrier, host and support team, and every extension includes a built-in CRM, an AI receptionist, call screening, a power dialer and fax. PortSIP is close on core calling and contact center features and is ahead on WhatsApp, sentiment analysis and running it on your own servers.
- No carrier to bring. We provide the numbers, calling, texting and E911; PortSIP is software only, so those come from a SIP trunk provider you sign up with.
- Built-in CRM. People, deals, forms and automation are included; PortSIP connects to Zoho, HubSpot, Odoo and Salesforce but lists no CRM of its own.
- AI receptionist. Ours holds a real conversation and books appointments; PortSIP's Virtual Receptionist is a keypad menu, and a conversational AI receptionist is not listed on its site.
- Call screening. Callers state their name and reason before you answer; name-and-reason screening is not listed on PortSIP's site.
- Power dialer and cloud fax. Both are built in with us; neither is listed on PortSIP's site or in its documentation.
- Connect your own AI assistant. We support MCP assistants with approval controls; PortSIP offers REST APIs and webhooks, and an MCP connection is not listed on its site.
- WhatsApp messaging. PortSIP brings WhatsApp conversations, templates and media into its apps alongside SMS.
- Call sentiment analysis. PortSIP's AI flags calls by sentiment so supervisors can review the ones that need attention.
- Run it on your own servers. PortSIP runs on your own hardware or your AWS, Azure or Google Cloud account, giving you full control of the system and its data.
- Perpetual licenses and a free edition. PortSIP sells perpetual licenses (buyers report a 300-license minimum purchase) and has a free edition for up to 3 users and 2 simultaneous calls.
- Executive and assistant calling. PortSIP lets assistants handle calls on behalf of executives, with their own feature codes.
- More desk phone keys. PortSIP auto-provisions up to 200 busy lamp keys on an IP phone; we allow up to 20 keys per extension.
Software you run vs. a phone company that runs it.
PortSIP writes its own PBX software, but you or a partner host it and you bring your own carrier. Every $34 Cannon VoIP extension also includes things PortSIP does not list:
- Nothing to host, patch or connect. PortSIP is installed on your own servers or cloud account, and its guides cover installs, upgrades, backups and SSL certificates you manage.
- A carrier, numbers and 911. PortSIP sells software only; numbers, calling, texting and E911 come from a SIP trunk provider you sign up with separately.
- Built-in CRM. PortSIP connects to Zoho, HubSpot, Odoo and Salesforce but lists no CRM of its own.
- AI receptionist and call screening. A conversational AI receptionist and name-and-reason call screening are not listed on PortSIP's site; its Virtual Receptionist is a keypad menu.
- Power dialer and cloud fax. Neither is listed on PortSIP's site or in its documentation.
5-user scenario: what you'd actually pay per month
Moving from PortSIP is built in
Cannon VoIP has migration tools in the portal, and our team guides the move for free:
- How your setup comes across. Import straight from a PortSIP export, or paste or upload a spreadsheet of your extensions, names, emails and desk phones.
- Keep what your callers hear. Optional discovery calls ring your old system and record what its menus say, so the wording, or the original recordings, can come across.
- Nothing changes until you approve it. Review a plan with counts before anything is applied; an import report lists anything that could not come across.
- No gap in service. Your PortSIP service keeps taking calls until your numbers port, at $15 per line, usually the next business day.
Bottom line: Five users cost $170 a month at Cannon VoIP, all-in. With PortSIP, the 300-license minimum, a server, a SIP trunk and admin time come to about $455 to $570 a month over three years, and more in year one. PortSIP is strong PBX software with a real contact center, but you run it and bring the carrier; Cannon VoIP runs everything and adds a built-in CRM, AI receptionist, call screening, power dialer and fax to every $34 extension.
